The last blessing is recited in either of these two circumstances: 1) It's the first night of Chanukah. OR 2) One is observing the holiday and reciting the blessings for the first time that year, regardless of which night of Chanukah it is.

I believe the last prayer is only supposed to be recited on the first night of Chanukah.

Yes, it is similar to the Shabbat candle prayer, but notice the last words...Chanukah. It is perfectly correct, as many of our blessings begin that same way. And what a joy to find this information on line!!

To Becky, from Connecticut. The prayers are correct. They are similar to the prayer for Shabbat, but it says, " le- had- lik neir shel Chanukah, instead of Shabbat or Shabbas." The prayers come from tradition. Check it out, if you don't believe.
