Description

Here is anice1780 in date Swedishnaval boardingaxein good originalcondition. The nicely shapediron headhasa slightly polishedsurface with darkareasfrom genuine age. On one side of the head it has a good makers mark. The iron surface has delamination markings which can be seen in the photos particularly at the top area of the main curved blade. The original wooden handle is in good solid condition with a nice smooth dark patina from age and a shaped end. The iron head is secured onto the handle with two iron straps with one on the front and one on the back. I have included a photo from a periodlate 18th century drawing showing a sailor holding this exact type ofaxe at aharbour side. This axe would have beenused inmany naval battles in the late 18th century against Imperial Russiaand also usedduring the napoleonic wars era. In total measuring25.5inches long. The head measures10.5inches wide with a5.1 inch long curvedblade.
