Light wear and soiling to red embossed cloth, moderate to heavy foxing throughout due to original paper quality. A very scarce 19th century handsome Gulliver. RAREAlbeit foxed, this is a rather remarkable mid-19th century picture book. The first modern picture is usually considered to be the German children's book Struwwelpeter from 1845. However, this painstaking lithographed and hand-colored Gulliver is certainly early in the genreand a precursor to the splendidly illustrated books that appear with much greater frequency toward the close of the century.
