sale for an original pair of mid-century Chinese export Sterling silver quail figurine hidden \"stash\" boxes. These are some of the first precious metal based Chinese objects of art produced exclusively for export to Western (US) markets and were acquired by the current owner at the \"Treasures of the People\'s Republic of China and Special Peking Art Exhibition in 1979 Washington DC. Invitation and provenance are available for viewing. This rare item is constructed of heavy solid 925 Sterling silver with applied gold gilding and hand enameling to accent the birds filigree feathers. They are both simply marked \"SILVER\", typical of Chinese Sterling silver intended for export. These large original silver quail boxes feature a unique, true \"hidden\" compartment with the lid skillfully disappearing between rows of feathers. Smaller reproductions with a simple cookie jar style lid are typically half the size and weight of of this pair and are regularly listed for sale on above $2000, but this is the first offer at sale of an original pair of Chinese Export Sterling quail boxes.
