(2) Vintage ANRI ? MONK BOOKENDS. Monks seated on books reading. Beautiful hand-carved and hand-painted folk art. Very good condition.
They measure 6 inches high by 3 3/4 inches wide and 6 inches deep. The monks sit 4 3/4 inches high. The bottoms are covered in green velour. There is some wear but the pads are complete.
I do not find any ANRI paper labels. I have seen many of the monk bookend sets over the years and this is the most detailed I have ever encountered. This set has highly detailed carved books, under the monks, instead of the block seats. The outer frame books have carved spines and accents along with carved pages on the upper book and the base.
No cracks, chips or missing wood. The set has normal tone variations and paint rubs on the wood commensurate with age and use. The outer book frame is solid and secure. There is absolutely no movement or play in the contact points of the two brown frame wood books. Lots of detail in the monks solemn faces and right down to the toes in their open sandals.
