Moai are immense human figures carved from rock between the years 1250 and 1500.
Moai statues represent the living faces of powerful former chiefs, ancestral spirits and mythological beings.

Both Moai and Tiki carvings portray human faces or forms, often with a very small body,

and is acid stained to look like volcanic rock with dark brownish blackold world patina stains.
Each statue created has its own absorption ability. They range from a mediumbrown to
dark brownish black. Lighter brownones in photos are in earlier stages of

Question:
Why do our hands get \"dirty\" when we rub the patina stained statue webought?
Answer:
Several coats of stain are applied to get a rich, deep color. Some colors leave a residual more than others.
After patina staining each statue (we let stain soak in 2-24 hours) then wehose off to rinse excess stain
but we don’t neutralize (baking soda & water)because more staining may be needed.
Once statue is dry patina dust may stilllinger and rub off on your fingers/hands.
If you find this to be a problem with thestatue you receive, go outdoors (not in a stainless sink)
and use a solution ofabout 4 tablespoons baking soda in a gallon of water and pour over statue and
rub gently with fingers (wear a latex glove) to lightly remove
(you are nottrying to remove all stain, just the light dusty layer on top) then rinse withhose.
