Embossed Heavy Glass Mugs

You most often see one - sometimes two of these mugs offered for sale - but offered here is a complete SET OF FOUR! One offer, one shipping cost.
Found in a long forgotten box - in the crawlspace under the basement steps of a local estate - these mugs are offered here as a set of four - as they were found - soap and water rinsed of course to remove the dirt and grime of the last 60+ years.
These are super heavy-duty, thick glass mugs - unlike anything modern that you\'d find made today. Each mug is 4-1/2\" tall, 3-1/2\" wide and weighs in at an astounding 1 lb 10 oz !!!
Since this is older glass, you will find the normal array of straw marks and small air bubbles encased in the glass. There is some minor light scuffing/scratching from the mugs rubbing against each other - and you may find one or two tiny pin-head fleabites on close examination on the vulnerable exposed raised rib edges. I found only one fleck chip that was actually photographable - it is above the encased air bubbles in the last photo. The TRIPLE XXX embossing is in fantastic condition without rub wear as is usually seen on raised lettering.

Triple XXX Root Beer was developed around 1908 in Galveston, TX. The XXX represents a rating system, similar to three stars, with the XXX indicating excellence. In the 1920s, Triple XXX Root Beer was distributed nationwide and about 100 \"Triple XXX Thirst Stations\" were built. Some of the early locations featured giant barrels as part of the building design.
The Galveston Brewing Company was established in 1895 by the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association of St. Louis. The brewery\'s annual production of 100,000 barrels of beer was sold locally under the name Hi-Grade. Its keg beer was distributed in steel banded oak barrels marked XXX. The brewery survived the 1900 Galveston hurricane and resumed production of the Hi-Grade beer for local consumption. An ice plant capable of producing 100 tons of ice per day and a bottling plant were constructed by 1913. The company diversified by developing a line of soft drink syrups including root beer, ginger ale, lemon, orange, chocolate, cream soda, grape and apple juice, all sold under the XXX brand. U. S. Patent Office registration records show the XXX trademark in continual use since at least April 1908.
The State of Texas closed the Galveston brewery in 1916 in anticipation of Prohibition. The company was renamed Southern Beverage Company and the brewery equipment was converted to produce XXX soft drinks, primarily root beer and ginger ale. After World War I, Southern Beverage Company registered an additional trademark, Triple XXX, for its line of soft drinks and adopted the slogan, \"The Aristocrat of Them All!\" By 1923, the Triple XXX brand had 150 bottlers and 100 \"thirst stations\" (drive-ins) operating throughout the country.
