Negatives are approx. 4 1/2\" x 3 3/8\".

Condition:

Light wear on most. Negatives are curled. Negative with Camel has a 1/2\" tear at left edge. One of the Venice, Italy Canal negatives has a 1/2\" tear. Negatives are in good to near fine condition.

These negatives are from a large collection of images collected by Ambrose Swasey, of Exeter, New Hampshire. Mr. Swasey traveled extensively,both in the United States and around the world.

Ambrose Swasey (Dec. 19, 1846 - June 15, 1937), astronomer, mechanical engineer, manufacturer, and philanthropist. Born in Exeter, N.H. He served as anapprentice machinist (1865-69) and met Worcester Warner, with whom he formed a partnership in 1880 to build and sell machine tools.The business eventually became the WARNER & SWASEY CO. of Cleveland. Swasey held several patents on gear-cutting machinery and,influenced by his partner, Swasey became a designer of astronomical instruments, for which their company became world-famous. He was afounding member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1880.The Warner and Swasey Company produced telescopes for many observatories.
