Amazing, Large Antique Late Meiji Japan Japanese Kin Butsudan Shrine Buddhism :

For sale is an amazing antique butsudan, made in the late Meiji or early Taisho period in Japan. This is a Japanese family shrine, or Kin Butsudan, for Buddhist and ancestor worship in the home. If you have been to Buddhist temples in Japan, you will notice that the butsudan is almost an exact replication of the larger temples, in miniature.

This butsudan includes fine examples of wood carving, lacquer, and chased metalware. It\'s in good condition for it\'s age, outside of some warping and lacquer bubbling on the left door (facing the front). There are a few age cracks on the sides as well, and oxidation on and around some of the metal medallions. I\'m happy to send additional photos for details. The dimensions are the following:
Removable top (10th photo): 36.25\" wide, 30.25\" deep, 7.25\" highButsudan cabinet (pictured): 35\" across top, 29.5\" deep at top, 33.5\" across bottom base, 29\" deep at bottom base, 60.75\" high (without the removable top), 33\" across the front with the doors closed, which makes the doors 16.5\" each. With the doors open, the width is just about 65\" across.

I bought this butsudan 20 years ago and have cherished it, but need to downsize and pass it on.
