Here is a great artifact from Polynesia and the Pacific Islands
It is a ritual Humanoid Mask, all hand carved from a single piece of native wood
Most likely of Tiki - in Māori mythology, the first man created by either Tūmatauenga or Tāne
Deep relief, open work carving
Characteristic manner of portrayal
It has been re-varnished on the front more recently. A quick inspection on the back of the unfinished wood reveals that it is definitely an antique piece
Most likely from the Maori people of New Zealand and Polynesia
