This is a beautiful sterling silver Antique Victorian circa 1890 malachite brooch.The malachite is in lovely condition with no chips or cracks.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
During Queen Victorias reign Scottish craftsmen used many different stones from all over Scotland to produce fabulous jewellery which the Queen highly favoured. Other stones including green malachite from Africa was also used by these lapidary ( stone cutting and polishing ) experts to produce stunning pieces and this brooch is a fine example of one of these early pieces.
The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for brooches of this period, but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The length is 4.2 cm and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition although not original.If when you receive your winning item and for any reason are not happy with the purchase please get in touch before leaving response and I will endeavour to resolve any issue you may have amicably.
