Attractive Arts & Crafts Art Nouveau quaity bronze plaque cast from a design by Sir William Hamo Thornycroft who was one of the leading pioneers of the \"New Sculpture\" movement along with Alfred Gilbert and Georrge Frampton. The \"new sculpture\" can be read as a rejection of stuffy Victorianism and a version of English Art Nouveau. Thornycroft was a Royal Academician and responsible for a number of prominent public commissions. He also won a Grand Prix prize at the Paris 1900 exhibition and is represented in many UK museum collections.

This plaque has fine original patination and is dated 1919. It was presented as a prize at the \"Open championship\" and was sponsored by Toogood and Sons. It has not been inscribed to a recipient.

These plaques do get offered for sale at tthe sale houses from time to time and is offered with a low starting price.
