Up for sale is a beautiful wet plate albumen carte de visite “CDV” of MajorGeneral John Sedgwick. This CDV can bedated to late 1862. He was wounded inthe hand at Sharpsburg in September 1862 and went north to his home in CornwallHollow, CT being taken care of by his sister Emily. After recovering in December 1862, hetraveled south stopping in New York City at the studio of George Rockwood. This image was taken then and is consideredone of the rarer views. Card measures 27/8” x 4” is perfect in every way and has a period pencil inscription of “Gen Sedgwick”not in his hand.

Also in this sale is a Stereoview of Sedgwick by Taylor& Huntington of Hartford, CT. Verynice image that is inscribed 2177 in the image and indicated on the bottom ofthe stereoview as well. It incorrectly notesthat Sedgwick was killed at Cold Harbor – he was killed at Spotsylvania. This photo is also embossed in the center “copyrighted”.
