This is part of the group that we purchased that had San Francisco and California ties. It consists of Civil War soldiers and officers. We will be listing more Civil War images. The opening offer is our reserve. PLEASE NOTE: The actual photo is much nicer. The background is a BUFF color and not the pink seen above. The Officer is a lovely and rich sepia brown and has very good contrast. His face is a little sharper than our posted photo.
This is an interesting antique CDV, or Carte de Visite. It is a portrait of a handsome man sporting a goatee. He is wearing a Civil War Union Army uniform. This was taken by H. Anderson of Eureka, Humboldt Bay. During the Civil War, in 1851, the District of Humboldt was established by the Army. It consisted of seven counties including Humboldt. Its headquarters was at Fort Humboldt, located on a bluff above Humboldt Bay. Eureka is adjacent to Humboldt bay and would have been convenient for a portrait. The CDV is in very good condition and has slightly bumped corner tips. There is a very light vertical stain at the bottom edge, toward the right corner. The portrait is a lovely sepia brown with a slight bluish tinge and has very good contrast. The background is buff, not the color see above. The CDV is a hair over 2 3/8 inches by 2 1/2 by 4 inches. We estimate this to be from about 1862 or so. What a nice portrait of a handsome Officer!Please email any questions regarding the photo and shipping.
