English Pitcher Gray Green with Raised Silver Luster Designs Antique Mid 19th C:

This very pretty, small pitcher measures 4\" (10.2 cm)in height and 3 1/2\" (8.9 cm) in diameter at the widest pointof the body. The exterior is a gray green color with someglaze, with heavy silver glaze on the embossed design. Theinterior has a nice white glaze. The pitcher has eight lobes.The handle has a raised luster thumb guard and three raisedluster designs along the spine. The beautiful Gothic appearingdesigns are well raised and are too sharp to have been molded,and were applied separately, as would have been done with jasperwaredesigns. In \"The Old China Book\"-1903 by Moore, there is aphoto of this piece and states this piece is made around 1860\"and is highly esteemed\". He also states \"this is probably onethe last uses to which silver luster was put\". I have a similarsmall compote, but it has raised cartouche of \"Villeroy & Boch\".I believe this piece is English, however. It is marked on thebottom with an incised number \"4\" within a square and another\"4\" painted in silver, as well.
