"HAND BOOK for CAVALRY" The basic design was of suspended seat type with an iron reinforced wooden tree made of single piece pommel, cantle and side bars, and inner and outer skirts. It would also have had the coat strap and valise pad features of the 1812's and probably, would have been single rigged with the girth billets nailed or thong tied to the side bars.
