This large \'bean\' has the features andmintmark of avery collectable Bunsei period MAMEITA-GIN(A.D.1820~1837; JNDA Cat. 2014 P.119 09-67) mintedfrom Bunsei 3 (1820) to Tenpo 8 (1837). This example has fairly clear partial characters on theobverse (please see the JNDA Cat. P.118 No.09-67 for images). It also has a clearreverse mintmark - this is an especially important feature.

The name \'Mameita\'refers totheJapaneseKanji character for \'bean\'.Mameita-gin \'beans\' arestamped withmintmarks to indicate the era in which they were made. Thevalue of Mameita-gin are based on clear mintmarks, their weight and the era.

An authentic Japanese Edoperiod SILVER ‘bean’! With a special reverse mintmark. Partial characters, sooffers welcome.

Condition: ~Veryfine.Fairly clear and quite well-defined partial characters onthe obverse (see JNDA Cat. for complete image). Fairly clear mintmark on thereverse. Light wear on both surfaces. Some dirt anddiscoloration on both surfaces. A very collectable example ofa Japanesesilver\'bean\'.
