Beautiful antique sterling ladle, perhaps for a punch bowl, by Loring Andrews & Co of Cincinnati, Ohio. This sterling silver ladle is in excellent condition and is marked \"Loring Andrews & Co\" and \"Sterling\" on the back. It is about 12 1/4\" long and weighs 5.9 ounces on my digital scale. I\'m not sure of the pattern, but it has a nice looking basket or bowl full of fruit with a floral design at the top of the piece. Its a good looking, elegant pattern.
The fork is in excellent condition with no heavy wear, just signs of careful normal usage over the years. There is no damage or repairs. I would rate it conservatively an 8/10 or better overall condition. It is a well made, heavy ladle with a thick stem and it pours from the right or left. It would work well for soups, sauces, etc, not just punch. From what I could find online, the Loring Andrews & Co was a high end store/jeweler (?) and dealt in some of the finest sterling siver available at the time (Late 1800 to 1950\'s). Some pieces I saw online with the Loring mark were truly exceptional, like sterling tea sets, candlesticks, etc.I have this ladle priced pretty reasonably compared to others here on , the price is perhaps not far off from it\'s scrap silver value. Of course, I would never sell an antique to be melted down. :)
