A very beautiful original authentic Victorian mid 1890s ball gown and or wedding gown with a waist cincher stamped SLATTERY BOSTON, which of course was the dress maker. It has been part of my private collection and I also have had other gowns created by the same maker; all of them have been very opulent. Being mid 1890s this gown does not accommodate a bustle as the bustle was no longer in fashion, Created in the most loveliest champagne soft satin with tiny polka dots fabric,matching shade netting / tulle adorned in tiny metallic sequins,matching Battenburg lace which is loose in some areas and wonderful long dangling thin chenille fringe in the center. An the shoulders design this bodice explodes w frills and layers, 12 metal stays including curved ones at the back under the sleeves. Lined in silk which is starting to deteriorate. The sleeves are designed to be puffy which would expose more of the gorgeous metallic polka dot sequin netting. The hidden back hook closure is not the typical type,another sign of a very high quality gown. Created to be full and crisp the Trained skirt is supported with a medium weight faille ? full petticoat that is bordered w a wide crisp ruffle. It being closer fitted at the hips there is graduating pin tucks completely surrounding the hip area. It starts to flare more at the knees while being very flared at the hemline which is accented with horizontal tucks.
This is an exceptional gown, superb for display. It will look even more stunning with a steam pressing (mine died in the middle of doing this gown)!! Although it will look splendid just as it is for a display, there is some areas that could use attention. The bodice has is some thread deterioration that has created some seam openings and silk lining waist cincher deterioration that could use some reinforcing, the netting is deteriorated in some areas. The skirt has a few marks. Thus I am selling as is. Approx. Measurements are 35\" bust, 26\" waist, 44\" front length and 49\" back length. A delightful Belle Epoch ball gown or a wedding gown, a superb example of the opulent era!!
