ITEM # swd-26Fantastic Koto Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae,blade is in excellent old polish & the tang has a 3 body cutting test inlaid with gold. Tang is in remarkable condition for a koto period blade with majority of file marks easily seen, full technical description below.Signature: Mumei (unsigned)

Sugisaku Matazaemon Shigesada Kao.
(Sugisaku Matazaemon Shigesada cut 3 bodies on 18th of May 1682.)
Blade length - 69.8 cm or 27.48 inches.
Sori - 1.4 cm or 0.55 inches.
Mekugi - 1
Width at the hamachi - 3.10 cm or 1.22 inches.
Width at the Kissaki - 2.42 cm or 0.95 inches.
Kasane - 0.76 cm or 0.29 inches.
Era - Keicho era.(around 1596)
Shape - Wide and thick Katana with rather long Kissaki.
On the surface, this blade looks like Keicho Shinto.
Jitetsu - Very tight Itame hada, covered in Jinie. And it looks like Masame.
Especially, Sashi-omote side looks almost Masame.
Hamon - Ko-nie based, Suguha. There are active Ko-ashi and Nezumi-ashi.
Boshi is round and Yakisake style.
There is a couple of small rust spots on the blade,none are bad ,large or deep,they are just a couple of small black marks,I got a quote to give the sword a fresh polish in Japan & the price was 80,000 to 120,000 Yen,Koshirae
Tsuba - Round iron Tsuba with open work is engraved. And colored with gold iroe.
Fuchi kashira are matching & depict an old man on the fuchi & a war fan on the kashira
Saya - Black Roiro Saya.
Menuki - Shakudo & gold bird birds
