These commentaries on the letters of St. Paul, here in the Editio Princeps of 1477, were originally published in translation under the name of Athanasius of Alexandria, but later reattributed to Theophylactus (1050/60 – post-1107) or Theophylact of Ohrid. Written concerning some of the earliest extant Christian documents, foundational to Christian theology, they had important influence on Erasmus's Novum Testamentum, the source for the study of the Greek New Testament in western Europe in the early 16th century. The work was printed by Ulrich Hahn, the second printer in Italy, and who in 1476 claimed to be the first to print music.
