General Description: What is being offered for sale is a rare unusual size pocket watch by H.R. Ekegren for “Crosby, Morse, & Foss of Boston”. The serial number of the movement is 15866, indicating that the watch was made during the second half of the 1800s. See the photo gallery for details and condition, which is SUPERB.

The watch is complete and fully functional. The movement appears to be all original. The movement/case combination is unquestionably original.

The diameter of the case is 38 mm. The diameter of the dial is 31.5 mm (American 3 size, Swiss 14 ligne).

Casemaker: The maker of the case is Ekegren. The case is marked “18K”. “Gold Medal, Paris, 1867, Ekegren”.

Monogram: The case has no monogram or personal inscription. Thus, it can be used for a presentation piece. The maker’s inscription of the cuvette includes the words “No. 15866, H.R. Ekegren, Made for Crosby, Morse, & Foss, Boston”.

Case Condition: There are no dents or dings or significant scratches, but there is a noticeable scratch on the back cover – see photos. The case hinges and springs are not damaged and they are in good working order.

Dial/Hands: The enamel dial and hands are perfect and very likely all original.

Operational: I don’t know when the watch was last cleaned and lubricated, but as is, it is ticking nicely and the balance has a good strong motion in all positions and is true in both the round and the flat. The watch is likely keeping time to well within a minute per day, plus the regulator has room for adjustment. Note that the watch was wound and timed (dial up) for 4-1/2 hours and only gained 2 seconds.

Winding/Setting: The stem-winding and stem-setting mechanisms are nice and smooth. Important Note: The setting lever automatically resets itself when the front cover is closed.

Highlights: Features of the watch include: beautiful 18K gold engine-turned hunter-case, perfect enamel dial and hands, special setting lever, 20 jewels, micrometer regulator, steel escape wheel with raised teeth, wolf-teeth winding wheels, and a bi-metallic split-rim temperature compensation balance – not to mention the very unusual size.

Guarantee: The watch can be returned for a refund of the offer amount if the seller is notified within 14 days of receipt (as determined by Delivery Confirmation) and the watch is in the condition shown in the photos.
