100% authentic, 14th-16th century antique. Green Celadon Plate, from Pegu (today\'s Bago) in southern Myanmar.This item is stylishly bold and strong. Width 30 cm. It will look very nice in the gallery, living room, or executive office. This is 100% antique, NOT reproduction.Pegu was the capital of ancient Hanthawaddy Kingdom of \"Mon\" ethnic group in Southern Myanmar. In 16th century, King Bayinnaung from Burman ethnic group in North Myanmar conquered Hanthawaddy and made it the capital and the commanding center for his very large empire. Widely called \"Conqueror of Ten Directions\", he ruled over other kings in Southeast Asia including most of Thailand today, parts of Laos, parts of Yunnan Province in China, parts of Malay, parts of Cambodia. Pegu was then the center of Southeast Asia\'s art, politics, and military power. However, following Bayinnaung\'s death in 1581, Pegu was destroyed by the fighting for throne and heavy warfare afterward. Very little amount of artifacts survives from that era to today. Pottery from that era is extremely rare.The item like this reminds us for the glory of the once mighty kingdom in Pegu, as there is nothing much left for us to see today.This item was discovered, during road construction, from the burials near Thai-Burma Border in Tak Province. Thai archaeologists believes that these burials were for Thai settlers that lived along the border between Thai kingdom and Burmese kingdom. These settlers were quite well traded because, in the burial sites, they not only found large quantity of ceramics from Sawankhalok Kilns (Sukhothai and Ayutthaya Kingdom),Sankampang Kilns (Lanna Kingdom) but also found substantial quantity of Chinese ceramics (already popular at that time) from Southern Song, Yuan, and Ming Dynasties and some quantity of Vietnamese and Khmer.Around 1569 A.D. after major wars between Thai and Burmese broke out, the area was loosing its population (fewer artifacts in the burials) and soon abandoned, only became re-occupied three hundreds year later by hill tribe people that migrated into the area in 20th century. From all ceramics found, very few are in superb condition similar to this item. Same ceramics found from these sites are currently exhibited at renowned Southeast Asia Ceramic Museum on Bangkok University\'s Rangsit Campus in north Bangkok.
