Here is a vintage, almost antique, folk art seashell art in the form of the Christian Holy Cross. It is made of wood, with some sort of plaster overlay and seashells. The piece measures 13 3/8 ins. tall and from one tip of the cross to the other is about 7 ins.The cross is in FAIR as is vintage condition with many broken shells, with some remaining pieces of shells left, but still has a wonderful folksy quality to it.I would date this to the 1940-50s time period.Many antique shell art collectors call this type of art sailor\'s valentines, as men at sea used to make items and decorate them with seashells and give them to their sweethearts. Too bad men don\'t do that today.
