WALNUT mohogany rosewood BAROQUE GRANDFATHER CLOCK west Germany 82\"x 19.5\"x 11\". west Germany is marked on the pendulum and LFS encircled by an escape wheel and the number 81 underneath are marked (stamped ) at back.It has two weights 8.5 LB each it works. .The body looks terribly old and probably at some time the dial was replaced.There is no apparent mark on the movement except West Germany on the pendulum.
LFS is a Lorenz Furtwängler and Son registered trademarke.The logo was first registered as a trade maker in 09/21/1881and again in 01/22/1895.The Furtwängler and Son clock factory or Uhrenfabrik (Germanfor clock factory, direct English translation is hour maker)was located in Furtwangen, Germany, and founded in 1836.Sons of Theophil, Hector, Oskar and Aldof all clock makersjoined the father\'s enterpize in 1868 and the company changedto Uhrenfabrik L. Furtwängler & Sohne. Because they weremakers of clocks which posesed top precision in workmanship,movements and cases they became world famous. In 1900ownership changed hands to A. G. Stock holder Corporation.Beginning with World War I the clockmaking was by lawdrastically curtailed, the company did participate in theproduction within the defense industry. After 1918, thetough competition of mass produced clocks and less expensivemovements and clocks case forced them out of business and alloperations stopped in 1929.The logo will give you the date between 1881 and 1925 forproduction of that movement, the logo was changed in 1925 tojust read FURTWANGLER. The size of the escape wheel on thelogo changed in 1885 from smaller then a dime to about thesize of a dime. This might help with dating it further.
