SING ALONG WITH SUBMARINERS WWII SONGS COMPILED & PUBLISHED BY REAR ADMIRAL GENE FLUCKEY-INSCRIBED AND SIGNED

This is a compilation of songs from WWII put together by Rear Admiral and Marjorie Fluckey (his first wife) and also published by them as noted in the inscription. See “forward” for information. It is inscribed on September 14, 1968 to Dave and Cecilia. I got this at the Carmichael estate sale of Cecilia Roberts, wife of Dave Roberts, the people to whom it was inscribed. I have included some history on them. David’s picture I got from a Harvard Alumni book also from the estate sale. The other information on them was from online just to verify they are from Carmichael.

The information sheet on Admiral Fluckey being THE MOST HIGHLY DECORATED LIVING AMERICAN SERVICEMAN AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH, was also from online.

Fluckey determined that the reason he wasn\'t seeing much Japanese shipping offshore was that the convoys were hugging the coast in shallow waters in the daytime and hiding up rivers at night. So - without charts, or intelligence on Japanese minefields - he went up a river in search of Japanese shipping - and found it! There was a convoy at anchor, so Fluckey fired six forward and swung USS BARB around, firing four stern tubes - then heading down this river with no charts and no idea where there may be minefields, in the blackness of night, heading for the open sea.

For this action, Fluckey was decorated with the Medal of Honor.

157 pages, some foxing and toning mostly on first few pages and edges. Overall this book is in very good condition. All the pages are firmly intact.

A piece of history from someone who, along with his men, I have developed a deep respect for as I researched this and his war record.

Inscribed in 1968 but no publication date so don’t know when compiled.
