This map which originally came from the ATLANTE NOVISSIMO published in Venice, Italy in 1776. Map is done from a copper engraved plate. Title on the map is NUOVE SCOPERTE DE RUSSI al Nord del Mare del Sud si nell ASIA,che nell AMERICA. Presso Antonio Zatta, Con privilegio dell Eccmo Senato. What makes this map interesting is that it was the end of the era of embellishment of maps. Itt was published in 1776 which was the year Captain Cook sailed from England on his Third Pacific Voyage. This map shows in the \"ARTISTIC embellishments\" OF the unknown parts of the Pacific Ocean that were to be \"discovered\" by Captain Cook. Page size is 19 inches x 16 1/4 inches, Plate mark size is 16 inches x 12 1/2 inchs. Paper is hand made rag fiber. When held up to the light you can see the lines in the paper from the wires of the paper drying rack. This is an outstanding example works of Antonio Zatta and one of the finest of the early maps showing the Pacific Ocean from the South of Cabo San Lucas to the Bering Sea--known then as \"Mare di tartaria\". The map has been hand colored. A rare map and a rare offering at a most reasonable price.
