A fine and very rare solid silver Dutch 18 C knitting sheath in beautiful condition as found.

This is a superb piece with great age ,the hallmarked top appears to show hallmarks for Haarlem in the Netherlands ,e for1787 the makers mark appears VD this standing for Dirk Van Dalen .the city mark appears to be Haarlem there is also a small punched mark on the ring that holds the suspension hoop I. A superb piece with fine engraved detail as shown ,Tthere are some use small dents on the top section most likely from use. the work of the piece is beautiful he appears to have been a expert silversmith of that time,he worked from 1753 - 1794 so this piece latter in his working life , please look at the simple but beautiful engraved details.... often less is more ...This would make a super item for a museum display . The length is approx 18 cm as found , the body thickness at the top 1.2 cm x 1.35 cm.with 8 tapering sides . The weight approx 26 grams , there is a ring for attachment that appears original.this fine itemcoming straight to the market new from a house clearance
