1/4 PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE OF BEARDED GENT BY \"COOLEY, SPRINGFIELD,\" in FULL CASE. This 1/4 plate daguerreotype is of a gentleman with chin whiskers. The mat is signed \"Cooley, Springfield.\" It is a nice image, but there are issues. Please review my photos. There is a scuff diagonally across the face of the sitter as well as some light vertical wipe marks from an earlier cleaning, I would guess. The full case has had black tape placed over the hinge. The photographer is likely Otis H. Cooley, who established his first gallery in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1842 and was in business through 1856.
