This is an exceedingly RARE splint woodbasket used for collecting small berries and/or field herbs. It dates to the 19th century and came out ofan Appalachian Virginiafarmhouse barn. It was made for smallwrists/arms/hands.

Included in this sale are 10 marvelousarrowhead/spear points AND 10 fine cutting scrapers all from prehistoric fieldcollecting in Arkansas and Kentucky.

The basket is made from sturdy oaksplints with one long, looping band making up the handle. The integrity andstructure of this basket remains solid and strong. Two wooden-slat \"feet\" lift up theoval basket when placed on a surface.Very old, oxidized brad-nail heads can be seen.

The top of the oval basket containspine-sap resin, for maintaining/holding the wrap-around wood. Minor humidity/dry cracks are evident alongsome of the oak splints, otherwise this basket is in excellent shape.

This is an absolutely stunning piece ofbasketry workmanship. Hailing from theAppalachian Mountains of the western sector of Virginia, this basket maintains itsgolden-hue patina and the incidences of age.A gorgeous piece of folk art.

The arrowheads & scrapers are finelymade projectiles / cutting tools that were collected on two farms in Arkansas and Kentucky.
