Up for sale are two of the rarest collectibles in the field of Flying Tigers memorabilia and World War II collecting for that matter. 100% Authentic AVG FLYING TIGERS Pilot Wings in both Brass/Gold, and Bullion. These two items are being offered together, so not only do you have the opportunity to obtain even ONE of these exceedingly rare Wings, you can obtain both. They are handmade in China and are stunning and exquisite.
These items are intended and priced for only the most discriminating and superior collectors in this field. The Bullion Wings measure 3.25 inches wide. They are probably the finest set of AVG Bullion wings in existence. Theatre-made in China, they were made by a master craftsman probably under the direct supervision of Madame Chiang Kai-Shek. If you Google AVG Flying Tigers insignia and review the many images that can be seen, you will see that there are no Bullion Wing examples with this fine of detail, nor will you see as fine an example of the Brass/Gold wings. The Brass/Gold wings measure 2.75 inches wide. I have not weighed them but they are heavy enough to be brass, and appear to be finished in Gold. From my own research, I have seen photos of Flying Tiger pilot R.T. Smith wearing the Brass/Gold Wings in a color photo where he is wearing \'Pinks\', and both color and black and white photos of Claire Chennault wearing them. There is absolutely no doubt about it - these are sets of the actual AVG Flying Tigers Wings and there can\'t be many of them that are not already in major private collections or in museums. I have taken several photos and sometimes placed the items on different backgrounds, but in some of them, you can see the absolutely exquisite and beautiful detail work in the Brass/Gold wing feathers, and also that deep reflective beauty of the blue enamel.
As for provenance, I acquired both Wings at the same time at a Military collector\'s show in 1996 from a very established and respectable dealer named Gerald Preitz of Williamsport, PA. This dealer only dealt in 100% authentic World War II memorabilia of the highest quality. Gerry told me that when he acquired the Bullion wings, he obtained them from a man that appeared to be the original owner, and he said he was about 80 years old at the time he acquired them from him (this would have been sometime around the early 1990\'s).
