Walter Crane was an Englishartist and book illustrator born in Liverpoolon 15th August 1845. He is considered to be among the most prolificand most influential children’s book creator of his generation, and along withRandolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway, one of the strongest contributors to thechild’s nursery motif that the genre of English children’s illustratedliterature would exhibit in its developmental period in the latter 19thcentury. Crane’s work featured some of the more colorful and detailed beginningsof the child-in-the-garden motifs that would characterize many nursery rhymesand children’s stories for years to come. Some of the books contained withinthis collection are extremely hard-to-find and will provide a valuable libraryof reference material and wonderful illustrations.
