A werewolf is a human who at times changes into a wolf-like creature, then changes back again. Werewolves have been taken very seriously by the church, who burned them along with witches in earlier times.

A man changing into a wolf can be found as far back as the ancient Epic of Gilgamesh, where the goddess Ishtar turned a shepherd into a wolf, making him the enemy of his friends, his sheep and even his own dogs.
But this is not a true werewolf, as it does not change back and forth, similar with stories of Zeus changing people into wolves.

Then there is Ovid\'s \"The Metamorphoses\". King Lycaon of Acadia is visited by a traveller. The king tests the traveller to see if he is immortal, by serving him human meat. But the traveller (Jupiter in disguise) recognizes the meat and turns king Lycaon into a wolf (Lycaon comes from the Greek word lykos, meaning wolf).

But this was not a true werewolf either, as it is a one-way transformation and not repeatable.

The earliest “true” werewolf appeared in 1013 – 1000 years ago - in an unnamed illuminated work in Italy, and it was upon this work that Marie de France wrote the story of “Bisclavret” in the 12th century, were the Baron Bisclavret changes into a werewolf for 3 days every week, but is eventually trapped in werewolf form by his treacherous wife. The baron needs to find his clothing in order to change back to a man, but his wife gets her lover (a Knight) to hide his clothes.

And this limited edition solid silver bullet set commemorates this event, as a silver bullet is the prime weapon for killing a werewolf.

Please note the bullet is SOLID silver, so although it would fit in the chamber of a 45 Magnum pistol, it cannot be fired.

NB: the limited edited number refers to the boxed set produced by Limited Souvenirs, not the individual bullets, which will be produced in a larger quantity
