Set of 12 10\" French porcelain dinner plates ca.1880\'s, most likely from Limoges area. Underglaze is decorated with a vivid cobalt blue that \"flows\" into the white plate. A difficult design element to achieve at the time. Border is decorated with printed gold in the French \"rinceau\" style and in the center of each plate is a beautiful, ornatemedallion. These plates are invery good condition for their age, exhibiting scratches inthe medallions from use, but all are still intact. In the photos you can see some of the scratchesandslight discoloringin center decoration.The gold trim on the rims remains intact, with no obvious scratches orworn off sections detected. The platesshow no cracks,chips orcrazing in the glaze. There are, on some of the plates, occasional minor imperfections whichpresent as tiny \"bumps\" or raised bursunder the glaze.While a matched set, each plate is unique and varies slightly in its coloring and the amount of cobalt glaze that \"flows\" to meet the edges of the center of the plate. Thebacks of each plate bearthe mark \"CC\" which ismost likely an internal factory designation for that particular china clay body, rather than a makers mark.
Each plate is pictured with its reverse side shownto its right. Please examine all photos carefully and be sure to ask any questions before offerding. A recent appraisal valued these plates at about $90 eachif sold in an antique store. Selling for less than half that, and with free shipping - a great bargain for such beautiful, antiqueplates!
