This sale is for thirteen Graphic Albums featuring reprinted Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge stories which were created by one of the greatest and most prolific cartoonists of all time, Mr. Carl Barks. These albums were published by Western, Gladstone and Disney between 1974 and 1991 with cover prices ranging from $1.50 to $12.95. All writing and art in the twelve duck Albums are by Carl Barks except for two stories which he only drew, one story which he only wrote, and three stories totaling 19 pages that were written and drawn by others. Retail values are from the 2016 Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide.

WESTERN PUBLISHING

The Best of Walt Disney Comics (From the Year 1944) is a Golden Special Graphic Album from 1974 with a $1.50 cover price. It contains two classic Donald Duck stories by the great Carl Barks: “Frozen Gold” and “Mystery of the Swamp.” F+ 6.5, $22.75 value.

The Best of Walt Disney Comics (From the Year 1952) is also a Golden Special Graphic Album from 1974 with a $1.50 cover price. It contains three of Carl Barks’ Uncle Scrooge stories: “Only a Poor Old Man” is the first Uncle Scrooge story ever published. There are also ten-page and four-page stories by Carl. VG/F 5.0, $15 value.

Gladstone Comic Album #7: The Brittle Mastery of Donald Duck, 1988, $5.95 cover price. All five stories are by Barks. Like new but the top non-binding side corner has been impacted and the whole comic has a three-inch bend there. The cover is not creased but it and the pages are bent. F/VF 7.0, $5.

Gladstone Comic Album #12: Donald and Daisy, 1988, $5.95 cover price. All five stories were drawn by Barks but he scripted only four. NM- 9.2, $10.

Gladstone Comic Album #15: Donald and Gladstone, 1988, $5.95 cover price. Four stories are by Barks (WDC&S) and one short six-pager is not by Carl. NM 9.4, $12 (VF/NM 9.0 = $8, NM- 9.2 = $10).

Gladstone Comic Album #17: Mickey Mouse, 1988, $5.95 cover price. This Graphic Album reprints some of the daily newspaper strips (in color) from 1944 with the two main storylines being “The World Of Tomorrow” and “The Pirate Ghostship.” Written by Bill Walsh, pencilled by Floyd Gottfredson, inked by Dick Moores. VF+ 8.5, $7.

Gladstone Comic Album #18: Donald Duck and the Junior Woodchucks, 1988, $5.95 cover price. Three stories by Barks and two totaling 15 pages not by Carl. NM- 9.2, $10.

Gladstone Comic Album #21: Donald Duck Family, 1989, $5.95 cover price. Contains five stories with art by Carl Barks in four of them but just the writing in the fifth. NM+ 9.6, $14. (VF/NM 9.0 = $8, NM- 9.2 = $10, NM 9.4 = $12).

Gladstone Comic Album #27: Donald Duck Is The Duck In The Iron Pants, 1989, $9.95 cover price. Contains five of Carl’s early Donald Duck ten-page stories from 1943-45. The cover features one of Carl’s beautiful paintings of a scene from one of the five hundred duck stories he wrote and drew. VF/NM 9.0, $8.

Gladstone Comic Album Special #6: Uncle Scrooge and the Many Faces of Magica De Spell, 1990, $12.95 cover price. All six stories are by Barks: five from Uncle Scrooge comics and one from WDC&S. NM- 9.2, $14.

DISNEY COMICS

Disney Comic Album #1 (of 8): Donald Duck and Gyro Gearloose, Disney Comics, 1990, 48 pages, $6.95 cover price. Five Barks’ stories: four are reprints from Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories and one is from a Four Color. A 1/4th-inch tear on the front cover lowers the grade from NM- 9.2 to VF 8.0, $6.75 value (NM- 9.2 = $9 - 25%).

Disney Comic Album #2: Uncle Scrooge and The Phantom of Notre Duck, Disney Comics, 1990, 48 pages, $6.95 cover price. Barks wrote all three stories but illustrated only two of them. NM- 9.2, $9 value.

Disney Comic Album #7: Donald Duck in Too Many Pets, Disney Comics, 1991, 48 pages, $6.95 cover price. Contains five of Carl’s classic stories (1943-62): three stories are reprints from Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories, one story is from a Donald Duck, and one is from an Uncle Scrooge. NM 9.4, $9.45 value (NM- 9.2 = $9 + 5%).

Included are two 32-page British Donald Duck comics in color, #14 and #19. They were published by London Editions Magazines in 1989. These are unusually tall in size at 11 5/8 inches by 8 1/4 inches. #14 has one Barks’ reprint and #19 has three Barks’ reprints, all from the original Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories issues.

GRADING

My comic book grading is done carefully and slowly to ensure that no imperfections are overlooked. I regularly refer to the Overstreet Comic Book Grading Guide, 2nd Edition 2003. I take pride in honest and accurate grading because I am first a comic collector, second a comic seller. I have never received a complaint about my grading.

COMIC BAGS & PACKAGING

These albums are individually bagged in decent used comic bags and the two Bronze Age issues have backing boards. I have shipped thousands of comics to hundreds of buyers, and not once have I been notified of a comic arriving damaged because MY PACKAGING IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST ON ! Shipments are protected by corrugated cardboard and waterproof plastic bags. I have never received a negative or even a neutral response from any buyer or seller!

I leave response as soon as I’ve shipped the items, and my only concern is that the buyer pays within one week of the close of the sale. If payment has not been made within four days of the sale’s close, I will send one invoice reminding the buyer that only three days remain in order to receive positive response from me. Sending an invoice is an extra step that is unnecessary so please try to pay within four days of the sale’s closing. If payment has not been made within sixteen days, will be automatically informed and your access to all sellers will be jeopardized.

BUYERS OUTSIDE USA

One of ’s rules is that Post Office boxes are not acceptable destinations except in Canada. Another is that Signature Confirmation is not available outside the USA.
