14.5” Antique c. 1840s German Papier Mache Milliner’s Model Braided Bun Doll:

This is an exquisiteexample of a German papier mache shoulder head doll on her original factorymade cloth body with wooden arms. Thisdoll has been pinned extensively on Pinterest and bought from a prestigious verywell known on-line web site selling vintage and antique items.

The condition of this dollneeds to be seen to be believed, her beautifully braided hairstyle has nocracks and the paintwork is still first class.She has wonderful expressive facial features as though she is trying totell a secret.

All her clothes andjewellery appear to be original to her and she comes in an old “shoe box” typebox with French writing on, which is not her original doll box, but where shehas lived for a very long time. She mayhave been shipped in this box a long time ago.

Her silk dress has meltedextensively on the front, but lesser so on the back. The dress is held together by the lining andto remove the dress could cause irrevocable damage.

She wears a beautifulsteel bead necklace which is a very deep coral colour and again, is original tothis doll.

She also wears a woolpetticoat with red hem trim, a white cotton chemise, lacy black stockings andblack shoes with buckles on the toes.

The only restorationappears to be a repair to a crack across the back of her shoulder plate.

She is a very specialearly papier mache (or Milliner’s Model type) doll. Her cloth body is correct for this type of doll,as well as the more common type of kid body.

The sale includes theantique box in which she lives. The boxis faded and does have damage to the corners.
