You are offerding on a striking and very rare leaf of musical score from a Catholic Antiphonary, hand- painted in black, blue and red with 6 of beautifully illuminated lined blue and red initials, enhanced with striking color, floral rolling borders, and gold gilt, the floral linework forming a partial border with intricate details, circa late 1400s.

MASSIVE Manuscript 4-LINE musical score and Latin Gothic lettered lyrics, on well aged rippled vellum; in blue, red and black ink w/ 12 beautiful illuminated 1-line capital letters; all in red and blue and 6 with fantastic hand painted gold illuminations and detailing, as shown. Measures 20.5\" x 16.\" Probably Italian in origin. Condition overall great, with some small instances of staining, edgewear, and light paint rubbing, as shown. Undated, but main text and vellum are ancient and carry characteristics of the late 15th to early 16th century (4 lined musical bars rather than 5). Beautiful initials with intricate miniature linework trailing around, within and throughout the capital letters, truly breathtaking illuminations with gilt and color vibrance. The floral borders add to the aesthetics as well. A showstopper! Ink nice and bright, although it has some paint fading and a few letters have rubbed off, mostly to verso, as shown. Still, a great candidate for framing with added character! Pics taken with and without flash for various views; page is slightly tanned but overall bright. A truly massive and beautiful leaf.
