A leaf from an Illuminated Prayer Book/Liturgical Manuscript Northern Netherlands, 15th century in Dutch, on vellum (141 x 99 mm.) There are eighteen lines of hand-written Gothic script, in black ink with rubrics in red with four-line Divisional Initials in gold with pen work in red and blue ink. Numerous one-line and two-line initials in red and blue ink and ruled in red throughout. The versoeighteen lines of hand-written Gothic script, in black ink with rubrics in red. Condition of this leaf is Attending church services during the Middle Ages and The Renaissance was a regular event for most people. Priests led the worshippers through all the feasts and celebrations of the church year, beginning with Advent and Christmas and continuing through Easter, Pentecost and the various Saint’s days. The combination of prayers and readings used in church services were known as liturgies and the books that contained them were liturgical books.
