PLEASE NOTE, this leaf is different from the smaller leaves I have been offering. It is the large first edition of the German version of the world chronicle.
It is listed as number S-309 in Goff, as M40796 in GKW, Undorf 3511, and as 14510 in Hain.
Since the great majority of books printed before 1500 were done in the scholarly languages Latin and Greek, it is rare to find an incunabulum printed in the vernacular. This leaf is also interesting in that it presents an un-standardized pre-Luther German text.
The literal meaning of the Latin word incunabulum is \"infant’s cradle\" and alludes to the fact that printing at that time was in its infancy. The fact that a book was printed before 1500 is significant in that its value is much greater than if it had been printed after 1501. Condition of the leaf: As shown, on hand-made, water-marked paper(occasionally a leaf shows a water mark) in good condition with evidence of aging: soiling, staining or spotting, edge and margin flaws, worm holes, old repairs, etc. I will mention flaws that cannot be seen on the photographs.Size of the leaf: ca.: 16\" x 11\" (405 mm x 280 mm).
