If you are looking for high quality Counters, craftsmanship in China reached its peak in the period from 1780 - 1800. Often crafted now into exquisite pieces of jewelry, theywere originally gambling counters made during the \'Ching\' Dynasty, the last Dynasty of Imperial China. They were designed for the British who ordered them in boxed sets through the Far East India Company, trading with China in thisperiod.\"Things of Beauty can become the source of purity, happiness, and inspiration; works of art can ennoble and raise the consciousness ofpeople.\"
Most of the counters would have been made while the brilliant Philosopher - Emperor, Ch\'ien Lung was in power 1736 - 1796. This peaceful period of the Ching Dynasty, was famous for itssuperior art work, reaching its height in craftsmanship around c.1780 - c.1800. The exceptionally high quality of craftsmanship exhibited by these pieces can even be noted at extremely high magnification. The equally beautiful heavily carvedcounters are cut from thicker pearl shell, and would have been carved c.1800 - c.1820, around the period when another Philosopher - Ruler, \'Chia Ching\' was Emperor.Most of the pieces show story-poem scenes of people in various life situations,bothat work and at play, often employing a literary or counseling pose.Other items frequently portrayed are animals, birds, fish and insects. These symbolic scenes are thought to be the master craftsman\'s interpretation of Emperor Chien Lung\'s 34,000philosophical poems written to bring China and her people back to a state of spirituality and peace after the preceding,long and warring \'Ming\' dynasty.
The 34,000 poemswere a summation of many of the Chinese philosophies from the past,especially those of Confucius, Loa-tzu and Crafting Of TheseCounters Was Never Recorded; They Cannot Be Reproduced Today.These Works Of Art Are AntiqueInvestment Quality Items As Well As WonderfulFocal Points For Exquisite Jewelry.
