These 15 ornaments are gorgeous! There is a nice mixture, all silver mercury glass! There are some with glitter, lots of indents, and 1 large, kugel style ornament made in India. Kugels were heavy mercury glass ornaments made in Germany at the turn of the last century; around 1970 they were reproduced in India. The one included in this listing is a 1970 reproduction. It is very heavy, with a lovely embossed brass cap. There are hand painted ornaments with lots of glitter, and some that have sugar glitter. They vary in size, from 2" to over 3". There are some from Poland, with tiny caps, some from Shiny Brite with large striated caps, and some from Santaland, with large plain caps. All have varying degrees of age related flaws - surface scratches, some clouding, some mercury loss, and some fading. They are wonderful ornaments! The age related flaws give the ornaments their antique patina - the aged look that they get over time. This patina is only developed over ... time! There are lots of new ornaments for sale that are being sold as antique - they have been artificially aged. Most of these are the figurals from Germany. The artificial patina is fairly obvious, once you look at them closely. These ornaments are lovely, and will be great to use and pass to future generations. To protect them, store them wrapped in tissue paper. You can wrap them in bubble wrap, but it needs to be over tissue paper. Bubble wrap against the glass causes the glass to become brittle, and removes the finish. I have lots of antique and vintage ornaments for sale, so take a look!
