16th/17th century brass Alms Dish :
$1250.00

This Alms plate or dish measures 17 1/4\" in diameter, is made of heavy, hand-beatenbrass and dates between 1550-1700. Alms plates or dishes were used in the middle ages in churches to accept \"Alms\" or offerings for the poor. Offered in these plates were food, clothing, etc. Today in churches we pass around anofferingplate but we collect money unlike what was collected during the middle ages. The back edge is rolled over a piece of metal wire. I do not know what scene this is called but it depicts a priest performing a wedding with the man putting a ring on the brides finger. There is a band of Gothic script around the scene. This was likely made in Nuremburg.
I have seen similar Alms plates as this one sell at Sotheby\'s for several thousand dollars! Here is a chance to own a period Alms dish at a good price and just in time for Christmas!Any questions please do not hesitate to ask and I\'ll try to answer as best I can.
