Tome I. The first Hebrew Bible with verse numbering. The text was collated with editions of Bomberg and Plantin, and with a 7th century manuscript and a 13th century manuscript. Best known for its accuracy, which far exceeded any precursors. this Bible is also well known and desired for the beauty of its typeface. Main engraved title in Hebrew, dated 1659. Second title in Latin dated 1661. Text in Hebrew, with preface and beginning materials in Latin. Bound in original 3/4 leather, with gilt-lettered title label to the leather ruled spine. In great shape, the outside with some pleasant weathering and rounding, as well as few small bumps and paper losses. The printed pages are interleaved with blank pages for scholar\'s uses; and they have done just that- the blank pages at the start have extensive manuscript notes in Latin and Hebrew, in a tiny elegant hand, some in pen and some in pencil. There are also some pencil notes on the text pages.The pages have been trimmed and the top margin is very tight in places. Part 1 only of 4. A few inscriptions in front. Pages pleasantly toned and well kept. Measures 6.75\" x 5\" x 1.5\". Good luck!
