$1200.00

Astoundingly beautiful & museum quality early “black glass” English or European onion wine bottle Circa 1680-1720 or a bit later. Height 7 15/16 inches, base width 5 9/16 inches, pontil pushed up 1 5/8 inches, rough pontil diameter 1 3/16 inches. No cracks, no chips, no repairs. Weight is 1 pound 4.1 ounces.

Dark green glass (commonly called black glass). Very much looks black sitting on a table. A dug bottle with amazing encrustation, astounding iridescence, & extremely appealing surface areas of deterioration from burial. Surface-wise the most exciting early wine bottle that we have ever owned & one of the two most appealing early wine bottles surface-wise that we have ever seen.

This bottle came out of an old estate in Lancaster County, Pa. It was dug many years ago (purportedly in the 1920\'s) on a colonial period farm site somewhere in Pa. Probably in Lancaster County. But, we are not certain. For a nearly identical bottle (except for the surface) residing in a famous collection refer to cosbert.com (onion E102.html) where the Cosbert example is listed as Circa 1680-1720 European or English.

From our careful study & many years of encounters with early wine bottles we would have estimated our bottle to be circa 1680-1700. But, we have gone with the more conservative Cosbert estimate of circa of 1680-1720. Also refer to the book \"Antique Bottles\" by Willy Van den Bossche on pages 119 through 123 for comparison to various similar examples from various countries which Van den Bossche has dated as circa 1720-1750. In any event, a bottle that is certainly of museum quality & worthy of adding to even the most advanced collection of early wine bottles.
