Pauper apprentices in England were the children of paupers who were bound out by the local parish Overseers of the Poor and Churchwardens, to a would be master taking onan apprentice. This meant the parish did not need to support the child and the master got some cheap labour. This indenture is between the Overseers of the Poor and Church Wardens of offerdenden in Kent and Anthony Hawkins of Maidstone. Obviously illiterate as he made his mark instead of signing. The boy was one William Fauroner(?), 'a poorchild of ye Parish of offerdenden.' Clear date written in words as One ThousandSix Hundred and Eighty Five.Also a nice wax impression.
