Original 2nd Edition of the Schleusingen Luther Bible, after the first of 1684, bound in original stamped pigskin boards and spine. Contains Sebastian Gobel\'s introduction, dated 1694, as well as Protestant scholar and translator Johann Pretten\'s Bible glossary in front, where he has explained, omitted and translated several Greek and Latin words into German in the Bible. Pigskin with moderate wear, the rear cover hand stitched back on, but the front intact, as shown with raised bands to the spine as well as the remnants of a leather strap and clasp system. Light browning and staining in the leaves throughout with a few small chips, the first few leaves rebound in front as title pages are actually sectional engraved titles, laid down with repairs, lacking the main title as well as other engraved sectional titles (only 2 of 7 present). Additional leaves lacking at the rear after leaf 352 ( Epistles to Hebrews Chap. 11). Text in German; remnants of 2 (of the original 7) engraved and illustrated sectional title pages remaining; the New Testament main title w/ woodcut borders and vignette present, as shown, dated 1696. A stout find, measures 9\" tall, 7.5\" wide, and 5.5\" thick. Good luck!
