This is a fabulous and rare find, indeed! Complete service for 12, including 4 serving trays - all in finest sterling silver, and bearing double marks, one for Tiffany & Co., USA, and one for Fouquet-Lapar, a noted French silversmith working as late as 1890 but not later. We\'re unsure, then, if this is a set made originally by Tiffany as a special order for a French customer, which would explain the Tiffany & Co., mark as the initial mark on the set, or if it is a set made for distribution through Tiffany & Co., store in NYC, late 1800s, but constructed by the French silversmith\'s company for export and sale. All pieces bear the French Minerve or Minerve, both on the bottoms and amidst the laurel bands on the top rims. The tiny number \"1\" within those marks means they\'re all in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for \"sterling\" silver). The silversmith marks are for Fouquet-Lapar and, as near as I can find online, they date to the 1890s. One medium sized round serving tray has a double stamp mark and you can easily see that the one under the Fouquet-Lapar silversmith mark reads \"Tiffany & Co., Paris\". There is a possibility the set had one added tray specifically made later on to match, made at Tiffany. We don\'t know the entire story behind the set, other than that it is double-marked as shown, and that it comes to us directly from an estate in France. The Armorial crest appears on all pieces, and it is a RARE treat to find and offer such a full, expanded service, still fully intact. Very good to excellent, all in as near pristine condition as one could hope for! two of the plates have one small dimple each on the rim, the largest serving tray also has one small dimple. Some slight surface scuffs or marks but far, far less than you would expect from a set of this age. No knife marks on the plates! All pieces bear the French Minerve #1 (.950/1000 French silver) and all bear the maker mark for \'Fouquet-Lapar, Paris\', but one also has an undermark for Tiffany & Co., as noted. Very heavy French sterling, the weights noted in our images. RARE complete 4-piece service and salad/dessert plates for 12, armorial crests on all pieces. Magnificent! See pictures for all weights and measurements. ***ALSO NOTE*** Shipping will have to be calculated at the time of sale as we will need to split the set into about five separate packages for insurance purposes.

Insurance has been eliminated as an option by , forcing us sellers to either ship your items without insurance or assume that expense also. Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is recieved (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
