Genuine antique map, untitled, by Heinrich Sherer, Munich, 1702-1710. Very unusual copperplate world map on a north pole projection, with California shown as an island. From \'Novus Atlas... Part VII... Critica Quadripartita...\' Shirley lists this in his series of Scherer world maps. Map consists of ‘Fig. I.\', which is an astronomical diagram; ‘Fig. II.\', which is the world map; and ‘Fig III.\', enlargements of Greenland and Iceland. The world map is full of conjecture and partial knowledge; incomplete ‘Nova Hollandia\', ‘Nova Guinea\', ‘Carpentaria\' and partial ‘Nova Zeeladia\' in the Pacific. A straight, ‘Fretum Autan\' separates the island of California from a northern Ania, drawn as an island but with a dotted in region, ‘Campaghie Land\' that almost touches a highly distorted Japan [‘Terrae Iedso\'] Partial Spitzberg but complete Nova Zembla shown in world map. Several other endearing features in this fascinating map. Measures 9 1/4\" x 7\". NOT A REPRODUCTION. All of our items are genuine antiques as described.
