1731 Copper engraving 27.2 x 42.5 cm ; 16.6 x 10.7 inches On fine chainlinked paper From Johann Jakob Scheuchzer’s Physica Sacra. Published in Augsburg und Ulm between 1731 and 1735. This print is an original antique print and NOT a modern reproduction. ITEM CONDITION: PLEASE VIEW IMAGES CAREFULLY Physica Sacra combined theological and scientific practices in an attempt to reconcile biblical passages with the new sciences of the time. The work is an extraordinary illustrated natural history work, and a great example of the decorative nature of the 18th century copper engraving. Scheuchzer was a founder of paleobotany and European paleontology, as well as a professor of mathematics and physics. He believed the Old Testament was a factual account of the history of the world and set out to reconcile the Bible with modern sciences and thus prove the existence of God through Science.

After owning retail bookshops in Lucerne and Interlaken in Switzerland, as well as a online sale business, I am delighted to be back in the United Kingdom.

Having studied at Oxford University in the early 1980s I was lucky enough to learn about the rare book trade by scuttling around the markets and sale houses of London at a time when it was still quite possible to discover \"that find\".
