This is a wonderful, original document, dated 1732, Flatbush, Long Island, New York; where Jan (John) Vanderbilt has sold to Isaac Leffert a plot of land lying in the third division, on land bordering John Vandebilt....signed at bottom by John Vanderbilt, Rem Vanderbilt and Ryck Vanderbilt. Document is 8x12, folds, minor paper loss, else in overall good condition.

Jan Janse Vanderbilt was born Abt. 1654 in New Amsterdam, and died Aft. 1735 in New Utrecht, Long Island, New York. He married Helena Lefferts, daughter of Leffert Pieterse and Abigail Van Nuyse. Jan was the treasurer of Flatbush, Brooklyn from 1714-1737, and he had a slave listed in his household. He, and his wife were witness to a baptism in the New Utrecht DRC on 29 Feb., 1735.
